Barrister bookcases were originally created for attorneys, government officials and other paper-intensive professions whose work required daily use of crucial books. Because those books were
usually expensive, and damage would affect earnings, so furnituremakers developed a style of bookshelf to protect these valuables from exposure to light or physical abuse.
Many barrister bookcases were made of oak, but furniture craftsmen also formed them from other types of wood and even made steel types of barrister bookcases. The majority of the businesses that made original barrister bookcases are no longer in business; and unfortunately Asheville Bookcases does not make barrister bookcases.
We do make a variety of other kinds of bookcases; please check out our other offerings for more information.
